Every human being belongs to a cultural background which one loves to be identified with. Also the societies that we live in have various traditions which define us and our roles, behaviors and place in the society. It is therefore important to preserve these beneficial cultures and traditions while at the same time use them to inspire others in the communities that we live in.
One way to help in preserving them is through the participation of arts and cultural events. The participation includes attending the events, encouraging others especially the youth who could have been brain-washed or are ignorant to attend, exhibiting or making performances in various art categories or through sponsoring of the events.
It is through the participation in these events that we get people in the community to meet and share which can cater help in the support and engagement of the needs of the community. This is because through the participation the community is a better of building good relationships through the various programs and learning which entails as well as the expression of the needs and the understanding of values which can make the community more vibrant and innovative.
People who are associated with the breast cancer foundation are one of the top support groups who are always interested in joining community events too because they want to live in a safe community and a nice, clean environment the most. Winning a Lost Battle
In almost every place that is inhabited by man, there is bound to be found cases of social injustices and evils because of the presence of various characters in man one of the worst being greedy and dishonest. Among the profession which is clouded by such malice is that of politicians.
There is a general belief which is oft proved truth that politicians live and hide in sheep’s skin. They use trickery and lies to win the hearts of the people who they promise to represent only to get the positions which they use to pursue their own interests while all along abusing office, misusing public funds, as well as neglecting the needs of the electorates who they are supposed to be serving but are left to starve.
My names are Peter Manzi and I’m a cartoonist. Being a cartoonist requires great use of creativity so that you can figure out and sketch something which is funny, emotional and all the while conveys the intended message to the audience. I have been creating comical caricature for various magazines and print media before and I really love my work.
Sometimes ago my country was experiencing poor leadership which was characterized by the presence of several greedy leaders and the economy seemed to be failing. There was little with most cases of the shoddy development work done being used to siphon public lands through shadowy deals. There were several cases of land grabbing and it was apparent that something had to be done.
Being a cartoonist who enjoyed a lot of media presence through my work, I received a worrying anonymous email from a concerned citizen who was challenging me to use my position to get back to the leaders. I didn’t know what to do.
I wanted to ignore the message but something deep inside me told me that I was obligated to see that we lived in a conducive country. There was something in me which made me realize that I had a duty to defend my country and that I needed to do something to that effect.
After much thinking of the best way out, I drew some emotional caricatures of the poor citizens verses the greedy leaders. The citizens were malnourished and wore torn clothes and they were begging for handouts. Besides there was an image of our leaders who I depicted them as pigs, ready to devour just anything without a second thought. It was an image of a fat pig which was clothed in an expensive suit and was sipping a drink in a luxury house.
After getting published, the picture went viral and there was a lot of talk about it thus drawing attention from various bodies, some international and thus the leaders were put in an uncomfortable position. This was followed by calls for constitutional reforms and before long, this became a reality.
I was glad to save my country from the being consummated by greed leaders as the constitutional was amended to have several checks on the accountability and leadership of our leaders.
My Passion for Photography Got Me Where I am Today
When I went to study journalism at in one of our premier journalism college I never thought that I would one day end up becoming a professional photographer with much devoted love for nature photography.
Being a great fan of Larry King TV shows, I was inspired by him into journalism which augured well with my vocal talent of oral speech and passion for adventure. While in college however, I changed and became obsessed with the camera which we used a lot in practical work in various journalism courses and eventually I fell in love with the lens.
Though I still pursued my journalism degree in media broadcast, photography consumed most of my activities. I always wanted to be close to nature and whenever we went out to various outdoor adventures with my college mates, I was their cameraman. Having passion for the camera, I knew how to make various adjustments to the lens, aperture and shutter speed hence my photos were really amazing. I would often take awesome photos of different panoramic scenic views of nature and some of them ended up on the College Board. They were ever amazing and everyone who so them appreciated them.
During the holidays I would take pictures of the community scenes and send some of them to the local print media where they majority of them ended up being published and I got credited for them. It is here that I struck gold because the photos published on our local daily got the word out about my photography ability until our president came to know me.
During our graduation ceremony which was graced by the president, I was shocked when during his speech he announced his intentions of having me join the Presidential Press Body.
This came as a surprise to me because I never would have imagined that he knew anything about me. Demystifying my astonishment, the president went on to explain how for the past one and half year he had fallen in love with the photos that I gave out in the median and his decision to have me join his press team, though he kept it to that day.
I felt so lucky and happy about it especially given that I had done all this for free. That evening I had a double share of joy as we partied for both my graduation and the presidential appointment which I accepted and still work in the press body.
How My Talent Saved My Community from Destruction
I’m Alex Shaw and this is story about how my painting went to great level to bring awareness and sensitize people in my community about the need for environmental conservation and protection.
Growing up in the countryside
I grew up in the countryside and I really admired the beautiful environment that was home. In the whole community there was peace and we loved each other. While still young, we would go out with other boys of my age to the rivers to swim and in the fields to play. Life was amazing then; it is still amazing now 20 years later though whenever I look back I believe that without intervention, every aspect which I loved about the place that is home would have perished away.
I realized that I had the ability to paint when I was 12 and would paint some funny characters which were mostly amusing. When I went to college I pursued a degree in Interior Design and after graduation, just like other youth in my community, I went to the city to look for a job. I was lucky to find one with a home décor company and enjoyed working there.
However, the transition had some impact in my life. Life in the city was different from the life that I had known as a kid. There was little would bring me close to nature and I always felt that I needed something which would rekindle childhood memories.
By this time, I had been doing so little about my painting talent but because of my desire to be close to nature, I started using oil to paint landscapes about different aspects of nature. I painted a big collection and people loved most of my work. Seeing the demand, I opened an art gallery from where I used to showcase and sell most of my works. Business was good to a point that I quit my work and decided to concentrate in business. This gave me more free time and thus I could travel to various nature-inspired places to look for ideas for my paintings.
The destruction back home
One day, it dawned to me that I need visit the place I grew up and since it had good sceneries, I would capture a few for my paintings. It had been almost eight years since I left home and the thought of going back was very striking.
When I arrive there I was shocked. Almost everything had changed. A lot of developers had invaded the place and what used to be beautiful walking trails were nowhere to be seen, the some of the rivers and streams which graced the community were perishing. I just couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t belief that my beautiful homeland which had great features had disappeared.
That’s when I thought that I should do something about it and went ahead to create a painting which depicted a man and a woman in the act of swallowing nature and beside another one of what used to be of my neighborhood a few years back. I ensured that the painting was distributed freely to every public place.
It really touched a lot of people especially when the media started fuss about it and led to the meeting of all leaders and other people in mu community. Deliberations were made and they decided to do something about the destruction.
Today I’m glad because all the grabbing in the forested areas was revoked and the community went back recreate the environment by planting trees and restoring all what had been destroyed.
