Marjorie’s story of Alternative Treatment
I had always imagined what I could actually do in case I suffered from any type of breast cancer — or any type of cancer for that matter.
On one afternoon when I visited my doctor, I was very surprised when she told me that I was suffering from breast cancer. This is a message that really stressed me out and I didn’t know where to start. I could not drive back home and the doctor had to call my husband. This was the end of the world to me, but thank God that everything worked out okay.
The support of my lovely husband and my doctor enabled me to be happy once more in life. The doctor was able to detect the breast cancer in its early stage and this was something that enabled the doctor and oncologists to treat it properly.
During the period when I was being treated for breast cancer, I got so many types of medication, I can’t really remember them all. I also tried a change to my nutrition and went into a healthy diet. I also got various types of additional treatments like body massages, use of herbs and tea, reiki, meditation and nutrition.
- Surgery. Initially, I had a surgeon who operated on my breast, and I also opted to have the breast reconstruction done too. The operation was very successful and although the first week was crappy, I did recover quickly after the surgery.
- Medications. My oncologist was excellent. She ensured that I always took my medicines at the right time and apparently at the correct recommended dose for my body weight. She was always on my side and gave me full support, like, I could even phone and leave questions on her answering machine, and she would call me back.
- Use of herbs and tea. I had to use various herbs and the Essaic tea before going for the breast surgery. This was after my husband’s advice because he had a friend who had tried it earlier and it worked out. Since I was very desperate to heal from the breast cancer, I never hesitated to take anything that someone would say, could cure the cancer. This was the time my life really changed.
- Nutrition. My doctor and husband who were always on my side during this time that I referred to as “My last hours on this earth” always advised me on the proper nutrition. There are meals that I had to forgo and I had to take other foods even though never took them before. Since I always took the right types of foods before, during and after the treatment, I always felt better each and every day. For example, I took some healthy foods like sunflower seeds, carrots, red and yellow peppers and nuts among others. These are some of the foods that my doctor recommended to me and I had to change my diet completely for the better.
- Reiki. This is another method that greatly helped me do away with pain and depression. It was something my friend Rachael did to me as I waited for the surgery and other treatments.
- Body massage. I never knew that body massage was very important when one suffers from cancer until it happened to me. My husband had to massage me every night before we went to bed. It always made me feel better. I got everything better on my side and I just don’t know how to express my great gratitude to everyone who was close to me during this tough time.
When I successfully went through the surgery, I was very happy despite the pain that I felt. I always encouraged myself that I have to be very strong to overcome the stress, but honestly, I had anxiety all the time.
Sally used Castor Oil for Breast Cancer?
OMG. Her reasons.
“You have breast cancer”. Those were the last words I heard from the doctor before I slid into an emotional wreck and the words kept on ringing in my mind again and again for days on end. That is perhaps what happens to many breast cancer patients when they receive results of their biopsy tests.
This usually sounds like a death verdict to many a patient which in many cases affect in their treatment and management of this much dreaded “terminal disease”. After many days, I came to accept the situation as it were with all its complicated consequences. What with surgery, Chemotherapy and high dose radiations?
The never ending pain and social stigma I had to undergo. It was going to be a long painful ride to heavens knows where. At this point in time I had no idea about alternative treatments that are often used in breast cancer.
The fear of conventional treatments, like surgery and chemotherapy actually drove me to think of other alternative treatments which could be less painful and at the same time effective. I consulted widely during my conventional treatment and came up with a list of many forms of treatments which are usually associated with breast cancer.
A friend suggested that I should first and foremost try a treatment which was less painful and damaging before I actually move to Plan B. There was a whole list of alternative treatments including herbs, acupuncture, massage, vitamins and many more. Some of the alternative treatments, as one doctor told me, were life-threatening and dangerous and as such I should be much careful when choosing a particular line of treatment.
Most of alternative treatments for breast cancer are usually therapy-based while others are medicinal and involve the use of herbs and vitamins. The medical profession term these as harmful and dangerous given that they have never been proven to be clinically safe. Then why choose “quacks” over conventional medicine?
I decided to choose the Castor oil packs therapy which was less painful and more affordable than the chemotherapy I was undergoing, and which was also draining me emotionally and financially. At first the effects were not so pleasant on my skin and also to my general physical state because I lost some pounds in the first month as I continued with this form of treatment.
I had completely stopped going for chemotherapy and vowed never to go back again. I chose Castor oil packs over a list of other options including insulin potentiation therapy, oxidative therapy, immune system strengthening therapy, colon hydrotherapy, high dose intravenous vitamins C, among many others.
Why did I decide to go the Castor oil therapy way?
Simply because this form of therapy is comprehensive and does not deal with specific symptoms as the others do but incorporates all the benefits inherent in all of them. Apart from being able to kill the cancerous cells and tissues, it is an excellent immune system stimulant which is an economical method of infusing the ricinoleic acid, which is very useful in healing body tissues. Though it has special healing powers, it also has dangerous side effects and should only be used with the help of an experienced practitioner.
There are many benefits associated with alternative methods over conventional breast cancer treatment. Apart from them being relatively cheaper, they are also less painful and have lower side effects. They are also more effective, as most users will tell you that they are now cancer free as a result of its application. They also don’t make you sick as most treatments would as a result of very heavy side effects.
I don’t understand if the medical profession takes alternative medicine seriously because they have very many doubts on their efficacy and performance. They even consider them to be extremely dangerous and life-threatening as they are not clinically tested.
To them, I will only say that it is only the wearer of the shoes that know where it actually pinches. Whether you are pro-conventional breast cancer treatment or pro-alternative treatment, the real test of any treatment is the results it achieves.
Ask yourself the question whether alternative treatment that are often used to treat breast cancer brings misery and sadness to the patients’ and their families or whether it actually brings healing and happiness. It brought so much happiness and healing back to my life.

“Sometimes a simple massage can work miracles. Maybe you are overlooking or disregarding it.”
My Painful Sojourn to Back Pain Recovery.
I had a painful experience with a chronic back pain on the lower part of my back about 8 years ago. I went from one medical center to the other in search from a lasting solution in vain. I was completely frustrated and hopeless.
I was also spending too much on medication with no solution forthcoming while the pain continued to worsen and become unbearable. Sometimes I would spend too many sleepless nights twitching and crying in pain.
I met a doctor who referred me to another medical center which had a special clinic for patients with back pain and spinal problems. I booked an appointment which was scheduled for 5 months before I could eventually meet the doctor involved. The team I met included a specialist and a team of 3 assistants .I sat to explain my condition to the specialist while his assistants sat on the other end nearby.
Doctor’s experience questionable
What I found a weird experience was that they never asked anything about my personal or medical history, the diagnosis or treatments I had received from other medical centers I had sought treatment earlier. They also never made any physical check or inspection of my affected area. Instead I just explained my predicaments and horrendous to the specialist.
The assistants who were noting down all my descriptions of my painful experience sat down and listed all theories which could be possible conclusions to my back problems. They noted all related ailments and then I was sent for some lab test and scans.
Long story short, I ended up spending too much money on them as they recommended several colonoscopies and several barium meals.
The pain got no better. It in fact worsened. I also underwent several spinal injections which were so expensive and total nightmare to me. I hated prescribed drugs but felt that I had no choice. But yet, I made no significant progress in recovering. The pain would momentarily go only to come back later, at times very painful.
Giving alternative medicine a chance.
I took several muscle-relaxants but still no positive progress. Actually their side effects would send me to the bottom of abyss. I completely lost myself.
One day a friend joked that I needed chiropractic treatment. It was a joke but I thought about it. I decided to give it a trial.
I went out fishing for a masseur. That was the turning point of all my pain. As a matter of fact, my life was now clearly defined after almost one and half years of pain because I now found relief. I would go to the masseur daily for 2-3 hours and she would work on my back. I started experiencing some relief.
What I loved about her was the fact that she completely had an understanding of the human-body anatomy and thus would work on my back carefully especially the lower paining region and after the service I would feel great. 7 months later my back pain had completely gone.
I would later conclude that the mainstream medical tests and the thousands of deductions from insurance companies was a total waste of time and resources. They don’t address the underlying problem in order to come up with the best diagnosis and solution to some problems. Nut that is my opinion as far a my personal experience resulted. It’s doesn’t make any part of the recommended treatment and results may vary.

Red Grapes
All grapes serve this purpose but red grapes are preferred for having more and superior qualities and properties over the other varieties.
The peelings of red grapes are rich in antioxidants and resveratrol which is a very active anti-inflammatory compound and plays a major role in reducing inflammation on the entire body. The anti-oxidant helps to protect cells from the oxidant damage that causes diseases.
Red grapes also contain flavonoids that can lower the bad cholesterol levels hence improving the flow of blood.
-
Apples
An apple a day keeps the doctors away. Your child has allergy or signs of asthma? Start feeding the child with some apples. Apples are rich in quercetin, which is a flavonoid with anti-inflammatory properties. Is that cool? Also apples are normally consumed with their peels.
The peels are rich in antioxidants called polyphenols, which helps prevent cellular damage. Also studies have shown that expectant women who regularly took an apple during the expectation period reduced the risk of the unborn child developing asthma as they grow. Make that apple juice for you child today.
-
Tomatoes
This is a fruit vegetable which contains high levels of vitamin C and thus is one of the best for inflammations which include wheezing, bronchospasm and coughing.
Vitamin C is also a natural immune system booster and natural antihistamine which can help suppress swelling caused by inflammation. This is an indication of tolerance against respiratory ailments especially asthma.
Next time you shop for grocery, make sure that this ‘fruit’ is in your shopping list. Other fruity vegetables include cucumber, green beans and zucchini.
-
Vegetables
Are you serving dinner for your family tonight? Remember to include some vegetable salad of either of the following;
- Green, leafy vegetables. These contain anti-inflammatory carotenoids which hinder the prevalence of seasonal allergies common to children.
- Flax seeds. Ground flax are rich in omega-3 acids hence when sprinkled on your salad is a great step to fighting allergy.
Bonus Diets:
-
Fish
This is neither a fruit nor a vegetable but I couldn’t leave it out of this list due to the fact that it contains high levels of omega-3 acids and also high anti-oxidants which can ease seasonal allergies in children. A study conducted in 2007 found this to be true.
-
Nuts
Every body loves almonds, walnuts and pecans. If you are not including them in your children’s meals then you are doing them a disservice. Nuts make healthy snacks because they are rich in magnesium and Vitamin E.
Magnesium is vital for intolerance to wheezing that is common with asthma patients. Vitamin E boosts natural human body immune system while it also protects the body from free radicals which cause inflammation and tissue damage.
Is Alternative Medicine The Way Forward?
Has Conventional Medicine Become Ineffective?
We have amazing technology especially devices equipments and programs which are digitized and make us marvel at their intelligence. Yet, when we arrive at matters pertaining to human life and in particular good health and fight against infections, we can’t figure out or provide most convincing explanation to most common problems which include back pains, allergies, acne, common cold, tropical diseases etc.
We live in the most digital era in the history of mankind, pampered with extra-ordinary innovations amp; inventions and ground-breaking scientific research and break-through. Yet, those scientists and researchers are still far from making conclusive report and medical methodology & procedures on some common illnesses which frequently affect mankind such malaria, common cold, cancer and minor & major surgeries and bring an end to the mystery fatalities which are seen in medical centers.
That’s why a person, for instance, may go to a medical center for conventional treatment, but later he/she will come out of the place doubting the diagnosis or treatment that was administered to him/her. It’s true and there is no doubt about the fact that convectional medicine improves the quality of life of humans as well as lengthens their life spans of humans.
Despite the availability of modern medical facilities and trained personnel, the mortality rate is still on the rise. Although other factors not relative to treatment to medicine also play a major role, still enough has not been improved to reduce with deaths which occur at treatment zones.
Every person has a different personal experience with illnesses and the health care which can result to a great influence, or bias to one’s belief about conventional medicine. There are many personal experiences of failed conventional treatment — wrong diagnosis, inexperienced doctors/interns etc and may result to failure and a negative opinion about how factual the said scientific treatment is true.
Among the most controversial failures of mainstream medicine are surgeries and the logic of when they should be recommended.
– When is surgery deemed to be suitable for a patient?
– Will surgery be the best and most appropriate solution for the patient?
– Will surgery provide a long-lasting solution?
– Is there a better alternative?
– What are the risks involved?
– What are the chances of a complication(s) arising?
– Could the surgery be fatal?
Is There Need for Alternative Solutions?
These factors have left many people questioning how effective conventional medicine is, and led to the rise of complementary and alternative medicine.
What are these alternatives to scientifically proved methods of treatment?
Basically, alternative medicine is the practice or instance to administer a process, therapy or use products for treatment which provide healing to the patient but are not backed by any scientific evidence. Thus these practices or products are not part of the standard health care.
Alternative medicine tries to prevent treating illnesses through various methods and the basic ones are:
Mind and body connection.
Body touch.
- Energy therapies.
Herbal and Dietary Supplements.
-
Ancient health practices.
These techniques seek to address how mental and emotional state can lead to ailments and infections to a person. They also explain how the mind must connect with the body so that a sick person can get better much faster. They include meditation, prayers, music therapies, hypnosis etc.
These techniques rely on the physical touch and careful manipulation of the body to induce healing e.g. massage, chiropractic, osteopathy etc.
These techniques promote body healing through the use of energy forces. They work in enhancing energy field that encompass the human body and brain. They include Reiki, qi gong etc.
These methods lay emphasis on the use of herbs and herbal medicines, vitamins and other dietary supplements organically, to prevent any infections from affecting a person by boosting the immune system. They are also taken for treatment and healing of many common ailments.
These are techniques used for generations and are passed to the next and involve some practices which promote healing. Mostly they are common in China and other Asian countries and also are found in Africa. They include naturopathy, homeopathy etc.
