The Journey That I Survived
My journey with breast cancer began in September 2003. I was only 37, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Suddenly, I went into shock, was traumatized and scared to know that I had cancer. I had never imagined this, because I always felt that I was healthy.
After diagnosed with breast cancer, I started searching about breast cancer over the net, explored a bunch of information on cancer specialists as well as all the possible treatments. Luckily, I was able to find a good cancer surgeon for tumor removal.
During my cancer journey
I met several radiologists and oncologists. Not all; but some of the doctors were very interesting and wanted to know all my cancer-related problems. They did an assiduous study to find best alternative treatment, before moving ahead with cutting, radiating and doing chemotherapy.
Moreover, I came to know from doctors that the breast cancer situation differs from person to person. They evaluated my situation and asked me to explain my problems in detail. After a detailed study of my case, they advised the treatment; which they believed was best to treat my situation.
I feel that my oncologist was simply great,
because she is not just a doctor. But became a good friend now. She used to take interest in my case, used to talk to me about my health issues and was always there to listen to all my concerns.
I underwent the cancer treatment
It took a long cycle of recovery; which still continues. But cancer taught me a different meaning of love, care and life. I was an alcoholic who never cared about her weight. Although, breast cancer changed me completely.
Throughout my journey of breast cancer I learned a lot about how to prevent breast cancer. I will share some tips that help you avoid getting into the situation I faced. Eat healthy, avoid alcohol, maintain a healthy body weight, and be physically active, and your life will be a bliss.
Be that as it may, I never imagined that a part of my body can be a threat to my life. Cancer changed me fully, in terms of my personality and my thinking. Therefore, I used to feel bad that my body cannot support me, I was totally dependent on others. But slowly I understood how important it is during such situation. Now when I am good, I realize that I would not have been able to do all this without the help people who care for me. If today I feel better, it’s all thanks to them.
Cancer, in some way, helped me to understand several things about myself, my life, and to better know the people trust. Now I can offer better help to women making their breast cancer journey.
We all know that breast cancer is the very common cancer among women
Still, we never bother about it. For us, we are always healthy, no matter what we eat and how we live. But, you never know when it grabs you, better get mammograms often, as it can lower the risk of losing your life due to breast cancer.
However, I felt that going through the breast cancer journey; including treatment was a tough part of my life. But, life after treatment is the toughest. I am no more the person I used to be. And then I question myself, who am I now?
I always wonder; what if the cancer comes back.
As a matter of fact, I try to ignore the worry. I know that my life is not the same anymore, all I have to do is to try overcoming the fear of cancer. Cancer took everything, or maybe I don’t have anything to lose. But I have hundred reasons to be happy. However, I know that fighting with the cancer is an ongoing process and I am very much prepared for the battle now, I feel tougher like never before. Now I have a new life and I have to give it a new start.
Nonetheless, I suggest all you healthy women to take breast cancer awareness seriously. To all women going through their breast cancer journey, I will say be happy, because life has many more surprises for you. Do everything, like a kid, this is the best way to be happy. I know how difficult this battle was for me, although I defeated it. But I should say it is no rocket science, it’s your life and you have to live it to the fullest, by beating this breast cancer.
